Losing Vera

Losing Vera is a collection of interviews from two family members about my grandmother's life. Forced to secretly leave Russia in a time of war, Vera faced a lifetime of fractured relationships. This is the first chapter: The Road to Home.

The book design allows the reader to pace themselves as they absorb the emotional details of an immigrant’s struggle. The story is accompanied by photos of Stalinist Russia, illustrated pull quotes, and family photos. An audio version was created with Adobe Audition and lives online; losingvera.tumblr.com. The goal of the project is to create an online resource where others can read Vera’s story and also share their family’s story.
